Pilot narrowly avoids serious injury following light helicopter crash on K’Gari

A man in his fifties sustained injuries following a light helicopter crash on K’Gari, Queensland. The incident occurred today around 12:30pm, prompting a swift response from emergency services, which included two ambulance units and a rescue helicopter dispatched to the Moon Point camping area.

According to a spokesperson from Queensland Ambulance, the man suffered minor injuries, including to his head, arm, and hip. At present, he is in stable condition and is being transported to a hospital for further medical treatment. Notably, he was the sole occupant of the helicopter at the time of the crash.

K’Gari, which was formerly known as Fraser Island, is renowned for its stunning natural landscapes and attracts numerous visitors each year. The area is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site and is celebrated for being the largest sand island in the world.
