Scott Freeman, a notable business figure on the Gold Coast and director of the popular EMF gym chain, was involved in a serious boat collision on the Nerang River. Footage of the incident shows Freeman’s high-speed boat, travelling over 50km/h, crashing into a smaller vessel. He has admitted the accident was due to a significant error in judgement.
In a recent hearing at Southport Magistrates Court, Freeman pleaded guilty, resulting in a $7,000 fine without a conviction recorded. Additionally, he was ordered to pay $5,000 in compensation to the victim, who suffered severe injuries and required lifesaving surgery. Freeman expressed his remorse, stating, “I just want to say sorry to those involved; it was a terrible boating accident.”
Court findings revealed that Freeman was not speeding and had negative results for drugs and alcohol. The victim endured nearly two weeks in hospital due to spinal fractures and other injuries, with the magistrate noting the incident could have resulted in far worse outcomes.
