Residents in Perth Hills are busy cleaning up after a sudden storm wreaked havoc in the area. The microburst, which struck shortly after 6pm (AWST) yesterday, lasted only a few minutes but left a trail of destruction across multiple suburbs, including Mt Helena, Stonville, Mundaring, Gidgeannup, and Chidlow.

Winds reached speeds of 100km/h, toppling trees, downing power lines, and damaging homes. One couple experienced a horrifying moment as their home lost part of its roof; local resident Claude Young recounted how they witnessed the ceiling collapse within minutes and were astonished that no one was injured. Meanwhile, another resident described hailstones that were “bigger than marbles.”

The storm’s impact was felt far and wide, with more than 12,000 homes and businesses left without power at its peak, forcing some shops to close and causing significant interruptions to trade. While ongoing repairs and clean-up efforts are underway, many residents are still waiting for their electricity to be restored.
