The federal government has allocated over $100 million in disaster assistance grants for flood-impacted areas in North Queensland, with a focus on supporting local producers. Of this funding, $72.7 million will be directed to primary producers, $25 million to small businesses and not-for-profit organisations, and $2.4 million to rural landowners and lessees managing at least 10 hectares. Eligible applicants, including those in the local government areas of Burdekin, Cairns, and Townsville, can receive grants of up to $25,000, while rural landholders may access up to $10,000. Furthermore, primary producers can apply for up to $1 million in emergency fodder support.

Federal Emergency Management Minister Jenny McAllister emphasised the grants’ role in aiding farmers’ recovery, as the region is responsible for 4% of Australia’s agricultural output. She also noted the Australian Defence Force has delivered over 200,000kg of essential supplies to isolated communities. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Premier David Crisafulli are committed to quickening recovery efforts in these troubled areas, reinforcing community support during this challenging time. The Bureau of Meteorology continues to issue flood warnings across the region, highlighting ongoing risks even as evacuations ease and residents begin returning home. Supplies remain limited as efforts to replenish supermarkets continue amidst the fallout from the floods.
