Brendan Fevola, the celebrated goalkicker with 623 goals from his time at Carlton and Brisbane, has been named a specialist coach for Richmond’s AFLW team. Despite being retired from professional play, Fevola experienced a wave of nostalgia on his first day at Tigerland, likening it to his initial draft day with Carlton. He shared this sentiment on his radio show, describing the excitement of reconnecting with familiar faces, especially former Richmond captain Chris Newman.
The 44-year-old expressed his enthusiasm for women’s football and his role in developing Richmond’s forward skills ahead of the 2025 season. Fevola will contribute as a specialist coach, working closely with the forwards while also assisting midfielders and defenders. Richmond’s head of women’s football, Kate Sheahan, praised Fevola’s passion and energy, emphasising his excitement for the growth of women’s football, further amplified by his role as a father of four daughters.
With Richmond having reached the finals twice since their inception in 2020, there are optimistic hopes that Fevola’s expertise could ignite their pursuit of a first premiership title. Players are reportedly eager to benefit from his coaching, promising a vibrant atmosphere during training sessions.
