Melbourne has lost a prominent figure with the passing of street artist and bodybuilder Mark Taylor, known as MeatAXE. The news was announced on his social media, describing him as a devoted father, husband, and friend whose artistic legacy will endure. While the cause of death remains unclear, a GoFundMe page indicates he experienced a medical emergency while taking his youngest son to a birthday party. Just days before his death on February 6, Taylor celebrated his fourth wedding anniversary with his wife, Renee.
Taylor was not only a celebrated muralist and street artist but also a bodybuilder and founder of Axe Laboratories, his supplement company. Following the announcement, tributes flooded in from the community, recognising him as an “incredible man” and a “gentleman.” Fellow muralist Matt Last, also known as Adnate, expressed deep sorrow, acknowledging the tremendous impact Taylor had on everyone he met. Renowned trainer Dana Bailey recalled the privilege of being painted by him, while world bodybuilding champion Nick Jones lamented that Taylor’s talents were taken too soon, affirming his positive influence and love for others.
