An alleged act of arson has caused significant distress to three homeless individuals in Adelaide. A 29-year-old man from Daveron Park has been charged with the offence and is set to remain in custody until June.
The incident reportedly occurred when the victims were attempting to find shelter outside the Playford Civic Centre in Elizabeth. As they sought refuge, the accused allegedly ignited their possessions, leaving them devastated. Witness Deb McLaughlin recounted the alarming moment, stating that a man walked by, set their belongings on fire, and then walked away laughing.
Steve Main, another victim, demonstrated bravery by stepping in to shield his friends from the flames. Unfortunately, he sustained burns to his arms while trying to protect them from the raging fire, which consumed their essential belongings. Main expressed his fear and uncertainty about where he would sleep that night following the attack.
Local residents have voiced their outrage, denouncing the arson as a cowardly act and expressing hopes that the community will rally to support the victims in their time of need.
