A 72-year-old man from Wangoom, near Warrnambool, has been charged with the murder of Christopher Jarvis, who went missing in 2006. This development comes shortly after another individual, Glenn Fenwick, aged 61, was sentenced for manslaughter in connection to the same cold case.

Jarvis was last seen on June 13, 2006, around 6 am when he left his home, where he lived with his partner and stepchildren. Concerns arose when he failed to show up at work, prompting his colleagues to inform his partner. By 8 am, his car was discovered ablaze at Thunder Point, a well-known lookout in Warrnambool. Initially, authorities considered Jarvis’ disappearance as non-suspicious; however, it was later reclassified, leading to its assignment to the Missing Persons Squad after new evidence came to light from the public.

Despite extensive investigations, Jarvis’ remains have never been found, with authorities believing he may be buried in a forested area. The recent court proceedings revealed that his death stemmed from an ongoing property dispute. Fenwick, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter earlier this month, received a maximum sentence of five-and-a-half years in prison, with the possibility of parole as early as August this year.

Additionally, in August 2023, prosecutors withdrew a related murder charge against a 71-year-old man, further complicating the case surrounding Jarvis’s disappearance.

Authorities are continuing their appeal for information regarding Jarvis’s disappearance or the potential location of his body. Any individuals with relevant details are urged to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1800 300 000 or to submit a confidential report online at their website.

The recent arrest marks a significant step in a long-standing investigation, offering a glimmer of hope for those seeking closure in this tragic case.
