A delivery driver is under investigation by the police after allegedly urinating in an elevator of a Sydney apartment building. This incident occurred on March 10 in Artarmon, North Sydney, and was captured on video. The footage reportedly shows the driver entering the lift while holding a food order, after which he exposes himself and urinates adjacent to the elevator door.
Residents of the apartment complex expressed their outrage upon discovering the mess, noting the need for a thorough cleaning of the lift. Building secretary Geoffrey Grasso voiced his disgust after accidentally walking over the wet area with his dog before reporting it to management. He remarked on the shocking nature of the act, questioning how anyone could deem it acceptable behaviour.
Grasso speculated that the driver may have been associated with Uber Eats, as there are public restrooms in the building that he could have used if he had asked. After the incident, Grasso contacted Uber’s head office but noted he had not received any follow-up. He stated he is seeking compensation for the costs incurred due to the cleaning, which may exceed $2000 if carpet replacement is necessary, as the smell still lingers in the elevator.
Uber has condemned the driver’s actions, emphasising that such behaviour is unacceptable on their platform. They confirmed an ongoing investigation and highlighted their community guidelines, which mandate compliance from all users, including delivery personnel. Violations of these rules can lead to a permanent ban from the app.
New South Wales Police are also looking into the incident, reflecting the seriousness of this behaviour in public settings. The incident has raised concerns among residents about hygiene and the appropriate conduct of individuals handling food deliveries.
