A 21-year-old man, Noa Touma, accused of attempting to murder former UFC fighter Suman Mokhtarian in Wentworthville, Sydney, has been granted bail. The alleged incident took place outside a mixed martial arts gym last February, where CCTV footage showed a delivery driver, purportedly Touma, firing shots at close range. Fortunately, no one was injured during the act, which occurred while a children’s class was in session.
Prosecutors assert that the shooting was targeted at Mokhtarian and revealed that a torched getaway vehicle, registered to Touma, was found nearby. The car had been purchased using a fake account on Facebook Marketplace just a week before the attack. The prosecution expressed concerns about the potential risks associated with releasing Touma, noting the serious nature of the crime. However, Justice Ian Harrison of the Supreme Court countered this, stating there was “no risk at all” and highlighting Touma’s youth and the time served while awaiting trial. Consequently, he was released into a full-time rehabilitation facility.
