A man has been arrested and is anticipated to face murder charges following the death of a woman in Mount Gambier, South Australia. Police were summoned to a residence on Pick Avenue shortly after 1pm on Wednesday, where they discovered Rachel Moresi, 55, deceased inside. Officers noted a suspicious smell emanating from the property.
Initially considering the situation an unexplained death, authorities launched an investigation which led to the arrest of a 53-year-old man, Troy Earle James, in Portland, Victoria—approximately 100 kilometres from the scene. James was first transported to Warrnambool Base Hospital for medical assessment before appearing in court, where his extradition to South Australia was sanctioned.
While detectives believe that James and Moresi were acquainted, details regarding the circumstances surrounding the arrest have not been disclosed. The cause of Moresi’s death remains undisclosed as well. James is slated to appear at the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on Monday to answer the murder charge.
