A 44-year-old man has been apprehended in Darwin following a domestic violence incident involving a crossbow. The Northern Territory Police were alerted to a disturbance at a residence in Alawa around 11.10pm last night, which involved the accused and his partner.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to a witness at the entrance of the home and spotted the man allegedly wielding a crossbow, reportedly aiming it at them. The police instructed him to lower the weapon, but he retreated to the back of the house. Fortunately, both his partner and the witness managed to exit the premises safely during this tense standoff.

Not long after, the man purportedly dropped the crossbow and surrendered to the police without further incident. He is anticipated to face charges later today as investigations continue. Authorities are encouraging anyone with additional information to step forward.

In light of the incident, support resources are available, including the National Sexual Assault, Domestic and Family Violence Counselling Service at 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732).
