Rabbitohs player Jack Wighton is facing a one-match suspension following a grade two careless high tackle during the team’s narrow victory over the Dolphins, which ended 16-14. Wighton received two charges from the match: one for a high tackle on Kulikefu Finefeuiaki and another for high contact with Daniel Saifiti. The more serious charge against Finefeuiaki is likely to result in Wighton’s absence from the field.

If Wighton accepts an early plea, he will be suspended for one match; however, should he choose to contest the charge unsuccessfully, he risks a two-match ban. The less severe charge regarding Saifiti, where Wighton struck the player with an elbow while carrying the ball, is subject to a fine between $1000 and $1500.

Other incidents from Friday night’s games resulted in fines for several players. Dolphins utility Kurt Donoghoe has been charged with grade one dangerous contact for a tackle on Rabbitohs forward Jai Arrow and faces a fine ranging from $1800 to $2500. Additionally, Newcastle Knights forward Tyson Frizell has been charged with a grade one careless high tackle after his involvement in a clash with Wests Tigers winger Jeral Skelton during the 10-8 victory at Campbelltown.

The upcoming penalties and disciplinary proceedings highlight the ongoing efforts to maintain player safety within the sport.
