During a campaign event in Perth, Coalition frontbencher Jacinta Price expressed her desire to “make Australia great again,” echoing a well-known slogan of former US President Donald Trump. However, shortly after, she retracted this statement, claiming she was unaware she had said it. At a press conference, Price insisted that her focus is on getting Australia back on track, distancing her comments from any Trump reference.

Price, who aims to lead the proposed Department of Government Efficiency if the Coalition secures victory in the upcoming federal election, dismissed any connection between her role and Trump’s previously established department. She expressed frustration with media speculation, asserting, “The media, you’re all obsessed with Donald Trump. We’re not obsessed with Donald Trump.”

Meanwhile, opposition leader Peter Dutton faced questions regarding the Coalition’s inclination towards Trump-style politics, during which he shifted focus to pressing issues like the rising cost of living affecting families in Western Australia. He stated the need to change the government to improve citizens’ lives, reinforcing his support for Price’s initiatives.

As the campaign progresses, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also campaigned in Western Australia, announcing a $60 million investment to enhance ferry services in Perth. Both major party leaders were actively rallying support ahead of their official campaign launches scheduled for the following day, with the federal election set for May 3.
