Andrew Johns predicts that Lachlan Galvin, a promising young playmaker for the Wests Tigers, could attract offers upwards of $1 million if he enters the open market at the end of this season. Following an impressive rookie year with the Tigers, Galvin’s manager has announced that he will be available for negotiations with other clubs starting November 1.
This news coincides with Dylan Brown’s recent high-profile move to the Newcastle Knights, where he is expected to earn around $1.4 million annually. Brown’s departure from Parramatta opens up significant financial flexibility for the club, which is now on the lookout for a new five-eighth to partner with Mitchell Moses. Johns believes that Galvin could be a prime candidate for this role, estimating that he could become an essential asset for the Eels.
Johns remarked that Galvin is one of the brightest young talents in the game and suggested that Parramatta might make a considerable financial commitment to secure him. “I hold him in high regard as a player eager for key moments in matches, and while he remains raw, his potential is immense,” Johns stated.
Galvin’s current contract at the Tigers is modest for his talent level, but Johns is confident that if the Eels were to pursue him, they would likely put a lucrative offer on the table, stating, “The initial bid would likely start at $1 million given the current landscape of the game’s playmakers.” He emphasised the scarcity of high-quality halves in the league alongside several ageing playmakers, highlighting the urgency for clubs like Parramatta to invest in fresh talent.
As the season progresses, Galvin will face significant challenges, including a matchup against Parramatta in round two at CommBank Stadium, which could be pivotal for his career trajectory. With the NRL landscape continually shifting, his future looks promising, and clubs are expected to keep a close eye on his development over the coming months.
