A driver has been charged with hit-and-run offences after allegedly colliding with a 15-year-old boy riding an e-bike in North Curl Curl, located on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The incident unfolded around 4.30pm at the intersection of Abbott and Pitt roads, reportedly following a confrontation between the driver, a 38-year-old man, and a group of teenage riders.

According to police, the situation escalated when the driver allegedly gestured offensively at the teenagers before departing the scene. The group pursued his Volkswagen SUV, leading to an argument during which the driver reportedly threw a water bottle at one of the teens. In a retaliatory move, the boy threw the bottle back, though it did not hit the vehicle.

Continuing to follow the SUV, the teenager subsequently blocked the car at the intersection. It is alleged that the driver then struck him with the vehicle, causing the boy to be thrown from his e-bike. Nearby off-duty police officers and other bystanders called for the driver to stop, but he allegedly disregarded their requests and fled the scene.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident, and paramedics treated the injured teenager for serious leg injuries before transporting him to Randwick Children’s Hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.

Following the incident, authorities launched an investigation and apprehended the driver around an hour later. He faces multiple charges, including causing bodily harm by driving furiously, negligent driving, and operating a vehicle despite an application for a driving licence being refused. The individual has been granted strict conditional bail and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
