The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has reported on its social media channels about a recent operation involving the interception of an Iranian-flagged tanker in the Gulf of Oman. The incident occurred overnight when a US Navy warplane engaged a tanker named M/T Hasna that was heading towards an Iranian port.
CENTCOM stated that prior to the intervention, US forces had issued multiple warnings to the tanker concerning its violation of the ongoing US blockade. Despite these alerts, the crew on board the Hasna did not comply. As a result, US forces took action and disabled the ship’s rudder by firing several rounds from the 20mm cannon of a US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet, which had been launched from the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). Subsequently, the tanker ceased its course towards Iran.
This operation highlights the ongoing tensions in the region and the US commitment to enforcing maritime security measures. CENTCOM has confirmed that the Hasna is no longer heading to Iran.
