Francis Molo’s next chapter in the NRL has been confirmed, with the Dolphins announcing his signing. The 30-year-old prop will join the team’s roster for the remainder of his contract, originally set to run until the end of 2025, following his immediate release from the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Molo had been embroiled in a lengthy contract dispute, taking time away from regular training since early this year. Following two months of negotiations, he has now reached an agreement with the Dragons to terminate his contract. Initially, the Dragons had denied his request for release, seeking “adequate compensation” for his departure. Reports suggest Molo may have had to reimburse a six-figure sum to the club, although the precise amount remains undisclosed. However, the Dragons have now confirmed Molo’s immediate release, satisfying club conditions for the termination.

With his move to the Dolphins, Molo is expected to enhance the team’s forward pack, particularly as some of their veteran players near retirement. The prop has experience on the international stage, having represented both the Cook Islands and Samoa, and has also played for the Queensland Maroons in the 2021 State of Origin series.

Dolphins coach Kristian Woolf expressed his satisfaction with Molo’s signing, highlighting it as a fortuitous opportunity for the club. He emphasised Molo’s potential to bring power and impact to the squad and noted his previous working relationship with Molo. Woolf believes the move is beneficial for both parties, and added that Molo and his family would be pleased to return to Queensland.

Molo is anticipated to make his debut for the Dolphins in round five against the Titans.
