Victorian women are set to benefit from a new virtual women’s health clinic offering complimentary access to specialised care for endometriosis, menopause, and reproductive health. Spearheaded by specialist nurses, this telehealth service will collaborate with community health organisations to facilitate essential medical support. Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas expressed optimism that this initiative will help ease obstacles to timely care, particularly for women in regional and rural areas.
The clinic will conduct initial health assessments and provide various treatments, pairing patients with general practitioners or relevant local health professionals. Thomas acknowledged the existing gender health gap, especially affecting those in remote regions, highlighting the need for this virtual clinic to address these issues.
In addition, the service will offer referrals for mental health support, substance abuse services, and assistance for domestic violence victims. This development coincides with the launch of the government’s mobile women’s health clinic, which is currently visiting regional areas, with its next stop in Daylesford from February 17 to 28. The online clinic is anticipated to open in mid-2024, further enhancing healthcare options for Victorian women.
