A bus driver is in a serious, yet stable, condition following a crash involving his vehicle on Adelaide’s O-Bahn track on Thursday morning. The incident took place shortly after 9:30 am at the end of the track in Modbury, fortunately with no passengers onboard.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang, accompanied by a significant cloud of dust, as the aftermath of the accident unfolded before their eyes. The driver, aged 27, was trapped inside the twisted wreckage of the bus, leading to a careful extraction by emergency services. Shane Finney from the Metropolitan Fire Service stated, “The driver was stabilised by paramedics and then we used our specialist tools to remove the bus from the driver.” Following the extraction, the injured driver was promptly transported to the hospital.
As investigations by major crash teams remain ongoing, concerns about safety on the O-Bahn have intensified, with numerous passengers expressing shock and disbelief regarding the severity of the incident. The crash resulted in substantial delays to O-Bahn services, necessitating the closure of the track between Paradise and Tea Tree Plaza for seven hours. The closure was lifted only after the wrecked bus was successfully removed from the scene.
Authorities are urging the community to be patient while investigations continue.
