A fisherman from Brisbane, Ben Jones, recently experienced an extraordinary event while out at sea near Moreton Island. He found himself in the midst of a feeding frenzy involving a large number of sharks, all swarming around a massive bait ball. Jones described the scene as “pretty crazy,” with around a hundred sharks beneath his boat, creating an exhilarating yet bewildering atmosphere.
With over 40 years of fishing experience, he has never witnessed such a spectacle, noting the impressive size of the sharks and the unusual sounds they made as they pursued the baitfish. In a video capturing the moment, Jones exclaimed, “This is wild, I’m right in the middle of it,” reflecting his disbelief and excitement.
He observed multiple groups of sharks fiercely attacking schools of baitfish and even spotted what he believed to be a small great white shark among them. Authorities have since issued warnings about the unpredictability of bait balls and advised swimmers to stay out of the water if they encounter one. This remarkable encounter not only highlighted the wonders of marine life but also served as a reminder of the potential danger that such feeding frenzies can pose.
