Two teenage boys were severely injured following a crash involving an allegedly stolen motorcycle in the Hunter region of New South Wales. The incident unfolded shortly after 2am when a police patrol encountered a collision between the motorcycle and a Mazda 3 hatchback at the junction of Main Road and Lowry Street in Cardiff.
Officers promptly stopped to provide first aid to the two riders before emergency services arrived on the scene. The 16-year-old rider and his pillion passenger were subsequently transported to John Hunter Hospital, where they are reported to be in serious but stable condition. Both teens were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
The 52-year-old driver of the Mazda escaped uninjured but was taken to hospital for mandatory testing. During the investigation, police discovered that the motorcycle had been reported stolen from Edgeworth on May 11 earlier this year. They confirmed that it had not been associated with any police pursuit prior to the crash.
Authorities are urging anyone with information or relevant dashcam or mobile phone footage to reach out to Belmont Police or contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 as the investigation continues.
