Family and friends are mourning the tragic loss of Lucinta Evans, a Virgin Australia flight attendant, who passed away in a road accident in Nadi, Fiji, while celebrating her 28th birthday on March 28. Lucinta was struck by a taxi that had collided with another vehicle before veering off the road.
In an emotional tribute on Instagram, her sister Gabriana Evans reflected on Lucinta’s vibrant spirit, describing her as “truly full of life, with a light and energy that touched everyone who knew her.” The family is currently processing their grief and has requested privacy during this time of sorrow.
Colleagues from her workplace have also expressed their sadness over her unexpected passing. Lissy Hyde, Lucinta’s cabin manager, honoured her with a floral tribute at the accident site, sharing her heartfelt sentiments: “I won’t be able to look after you anymore on our flights or anything about work. I ask you to look after us from above.” Lissy encouraged Lucinta to “fly with us” and assured her that she would always be cherished.
Lucinta’s funeral is set to take place in Sydney on April 13. To support her family and partner through this challenging period, a GoFundMe campaign has been established. The aim is to alleviate financial pressures they face due to unexpected expenses following the tragedy, allowing them time to mourn and recover without the added stress of financial burdens.
In addition to supporting her family, a portion of the funds raised through the campaign will contribute to road safety advocacy or potentially a memorial plaque in Lucinta’s honour, aimed at increasing awareness and preventing similar accidents in the future.
As her community rallies together to remember Lucinta’s bright, joyous spirit, they face the reality of a profound loss, united in love and remembrance.
