In a historic feat at the FIS Aerials World Cup in Deer Valley, four Australian athletes claimed the top spots in the aerial skiing competition, marking the first time in any winter sport that Australia has swept the podium and occupied the top four positions. Veteran skier Laura Peel secured her third consecutive victory and twelfth overall, leading defending champion Danielle Scott, Abbey Willcox, and Airleigh Frigo. This remarkable achievement comes less than a year ahead of the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics.
The event, held under challenging conditions, gave the Aussie team a significant boost in confidence as they showcased impressive performances, notably executing backfull-full jumps in the final round. After the event, Peel expressed her excitement, stating, “Three back-to-back wins is super exciting,” while the Winter Olympic chef de mission, Alisa Camplin, praised the team’s resilience and dedication in tough weather.
Despite external challenges, including two cancelled training days due to warm conditions, the athletes demonstrated extraordinary skill and focus. With this success, the Australian aerial skiing program solidified its potential on the world stage, garnering attention for the upcoming Olympic Games. The next World Cup is scheduled for February 23-24 in China at Beidahu ski resort.
