New South Wales Police have intercepted a potentially lethal plot linked to the underworld after a dramatic high-speed chase in western Sydney. An Audi, suspected to have been stolen and involved in a string of violent incidents including shootings and a firebombing, was forcibly stopped on a major motorway in Lidcombe during the pursuit.

The chase commenced on the Great Western Highway in Wentworthville in the afternoon, during which occupants of the Audi discarded jerry cans from the vehicle on the M4 motorway near Silverwater. A significant police response included multiple patrol cars and a helicopter, ultimately allowing officers to catch the Audi around Hill Road in Homebush.

Once the car was brought to a stop, three men inside fled on foot. However, police apprehended them shortly thereafter. Authorities discovered a handgun and a semi-automatic weapon in the vehicle, which are believed to be tied to recent shootings and a firebombing incident in Panania from the previous month. The Audi is also thought to have been involved in shooting incidents at three separate residences in western Sydney this week.

Detective Inspector Brad Abdy stated that police were actively working to trace the vehicle’s routes connected to the shootings. The arrested men, aged 28 from Maroubra, 24 from Shalvey, and 25 from Wilmot, have not yet been charged. The police continue to investigate the matter and are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage of the chase to come forward.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenge faced by law enforcement in addressing organised crime and ensuring public safety in the region.
