Four teenagers were arrested in Melbourne’s east following an alleged break-in at a residence early this morning. A couple in Kew awoke around 4am to find masked intruders in their bedroom on Sackville Street. It is reported that the teens gained entry through a doggy door and confronted the homeowners directly.
The female resident described how she screamed, alerting her husband, which prompted even more panic as a second intruder entered the room. The teenagers reportedly demanded car keys and seized the woman’s phone when she attempted to call the police.
After the husband managed to raise the alarm, police arrived at the scene. The suspects are said to have fled, jumping over the back fence with the stolen phone, jewellery, and a wallet in hand. The female homeowner expressed concern, believing the intruders were targeting houses with valuable cars, advising them against their actions, warning that theft would lead to jail time.
A search operation involving the AirWing and Dog Squad successfully located the suspects in a nearby yard on Bramley Court. The arrested individuals, aged between 14 and 16, had reportedly arrived at the scene in a BMW that had been stolen earlier that night from Cranbourne West. This vehicle was later towed from Kew, while the case continues to develop.
