The Gold Coast has been chosen as the location for the forthcoming World Surfing Conservation Conference, a distinguished event in the surfing community. Set to take place next year at Southern Cross University, the conference will assemble experts, scientists, and enthusiasts from around the globe to discuss urgent matters impacting surf breaks and coastal environments.

The event aims to promote collaboration and the exchange of knowledge among attendees. Key subjects will include strategies for safeguarding point breaks and beaches, implementing sustainable surf management practices, and assessing the consequences of climate change on coastal regions.

World champion surfer Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew noted the effectiveness of Gold Coast’s surf management plan, which has become a global benchmark, claiming, “We’re the only city in the world that has one of these plans.” He highlighted the initiative’s focus on preserving point breaks and beaches, stressing their value as vital assets.

In addition to the informative sessions, participants will have the chance to explore the Gold Coast’s famous surf spots, allowing them to experience the exceptional quality of the city’s waves firsthand.
