Reece Walsh, the 22-year-old Brisbane Broncos star, has rapidly ascended in his NRL career, already representing the Maroons and competing in a grand final. With his solid State of Origin experience, he is likely to don Australia’s green and gold in the future. However, he faces a personal dilemma with the upcoming All Stars match, where he is eligible for both the Maori and Indigenous teams but has yet to participate.

In the latest episode of Nine’s Marlee and Me, Walsh expressed the emotional struggle of choosing which culture to represent, stating it feels as if he would be letting one side of his family down. He affirmed, "no matter what I do, I know they are all gonna be proud."

This dual eligibility is not uncommon, as many players, including veteran Dane Gagai, have played for both teams. Walsh has contemplated the possibility of alternating representation but acknowledges the complexities that would arise, such as potential backlash from teammates. He also hinted at seeking advice from Gagai on the matter.

Walsh is set to appear in Brisbane’s pre-season trial on February 22, leading up to their opening match against the Roosters. As the season unfolds, the decision on his All Stars participation will remain a pertinent issue for the promising fullback.
