South Australia Police have taken a man and a woman into custody following allegations of assault against a four-week-old baby in Adelaide’s southern region. The infant was hospitalised in May due to a swollen leg, and subsequent tests revealed significant injuries, including multiple bone fractures.
The arrested individuals, a 34-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man from Reynella East, were apprehended after detectives from the Southern District Criminal Investigation Branch conducted an investigation into the baby’s injuries. Both suspects have been charged with criminal neglect and recklessly causing serious harm.
They have been granted bail and are scheduled to appear at the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 30 September. According to a statement from SA Police, the accused individuals and the baby are known to one another, adding a layer of complexity to the case.
