A Gold Coast-based company has launched an innovative online program, PocketAid, which enables individuals to replicate the experience of using a hearing aid from the comfort of their homes. This program features twelve distinct scenarios, including family conversations and television viewing, to showcase the advantages of hearing assistance technology.
Phillip Victor, who struggles with clear hearing in social environments, recently tested the simulator. He noted a significant difference in his auditory experience, especially in settings like cafes and restaurants where he often finds it challenging to follow conversations. “The before and after really contrasted how much it was an improved experience,” he explained after using the tool.
The simulator allows users to either input their own hearing test results or choose from predefined levels of hearing loss, which are classified as mild, moderate, or severe. According to Dan Hudson, the CEO of PocketAid, this customisation facilitates a more personalised simulation for each user.
Another user, Carey Parsons, praised the program for its privacy, stating, “There’s absolutely no pressure at all; you can take it at your own pace, decide whether to proceed further, or simply refrain from doing so.” This at-home assessment option offers a low-pressure environment for individuals considering hearing aids.
The PocketAid simulator is readily available through the company’s website, providing an accessible means to explore hearing aids in a private setting.
