King Charles III has been admitted to hospital due to “temporary side effects” from his ongoing cancer treatment, as confirmed by Buckingham Palace. The 76-year-old monarch required a brief observation period in hospital on Thursday morning and subsequently postponed his afternoon engagements as a precaution, following medical advice.

After the observation, the King has returned to Clarence House, his London residence. In an official statement released on Friday morning (Australian time), the Palace explained that his recent hospital visit was related to his scheduled cancer treatment. The statement revealed, “His Majesty experienced temporary side effects that necessitated a short period of observation in hospital,” leading to the postponement of his afternoon commitments.

Furthermore, the statement noted that, following medical recommendations, the King’s programme for the following day would also be rescheduled. King Charles expressed his apologies to those affected by the cancellations, acknowledging the inconvenience it may have caused.

Details regarding the nature of the King’s cancer treatment remain undisclosed, and Buckingham Palace has not expanded on this aspect. It is worth noting that the King had previously resumed public duties in April last year after an extended break on his doctors’ advice.

As this is a developing story, more information is anticipated in the coming days.
