A man has been charged with high-range drink driving after his car crashed through a fence, taking down powerlines and stopping near train tracks in New South Wales’ Blue Mountains. Police were alerted to the incident at the intersection of Railway Parade and Blackheath Street in Leura just before 10pm last night.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 41-year-old man who was uninjured, as well as a sedan positioned perilously close—only two metres away—from the westbound railway lines. The collision caused approximately 60 metres of electrical cabling to be dislodged.
The driver underwent both a roadside breath test and a drug evaluation, with both tests reportedly returning positive results. Police claimed to have found substances including cocaine, cannabis, and prescription medications inside the vehicle. A subsequent breath analysis at Katoomba Police Station revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.162.
The man, from Wentworth Falls, faces charges for high-range drink driving, possession of drugs, and possession of a knife. He has been granted bail and is scheduled to appear in court on July 7, with his driver’s licence suspended immediately. Authorities have indicated that additional charges may arise depending on the findings of a subsequent drug test.
