Hollywood actress Rebel Wilson is currently focused on her pregnant wife’s impending delivery as she testifies for the second consecutive day in a significant defamation lawsuit. Wilson, known for her roles in films like Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids, is facing a lawsuit from Charlotte MacInnes, the 27-year-old star of the musical comedy The Deb.
MacInnes alleges that Wilson defamed her through social media posts that implied MacInnes lied about retracting a sexual harassment complaint to advance her career. As she arrived at the Federal Court, Wilson expressed her preoccupation with the upcoming birth, discussing her anxiety about the situation. "If I seem a bit anxious, it’s because any day my second child may be born, hopefully not today," she mentioned to reporters.
In the courtroom, Wilson has repeatedly denied any accusations of dishonesty, continuing to respond to aggressive cross-examination. While she has stated she cannot comment on the details of the case due to the ongoing legal process, she took a moment to acknowledge the support from her colleagues involved in The Deb.
A focal point of the case is an interaction between MacInnes and Amanda Ghost, the film’s co-producer, during which MacInnes allegedly expressed discomfort after being asked to bathe together. Wilson interpreted this as a sexual harassment complaint and felt shocked by the request. "This fun girl-power movie would have been greatly impacted by a sexual harassment claim," Wilson testified.
Contrarily, MacInnes denies making any complaint or expressing discomfort, asserting that she never told Wilson about feeling uneasy. Wilson indicated that she had checked in on MacInnes and subsequently reported the incident to another producer.
Adding to the complexity of the case, MacInnes claims that shortly after filing legal action against Wilson, her social media accounts were hacked, leading to the leaking of a nude photograph to her contacts. She believes Wilson orchestrated this cyber attack, a claim that has not yet been substantiated in court. Wilson has not yet been questioned regarding these allegations.
As Wilson’s testimony continues, it’s expected that she will face further scrutiny regarding the events surrounding the alleged complaint, as well as the cyber incident involving MacInnes. With personal and professional challenges intertwined, Wilson’s circumstances are contributing to a highly publicised legal battle.
