On social media today, Pauline Hanson, leader of One Nation, announced her excitement over receiving a private plane, intended to facilitate visits to regional areas across Australia. She expressed her joy about the surprise donation, which she described as “fast” and “amazing,” adding a cheeky comment about potential annoyance to the media outlet, The Guardian.
The aircraft in question is a Cirrus G7, a model known for its sleek design, and Hanson confirmed she has a pilot to operate it. However, she made clear that she won’t be performing welcome ceremonies upon each landing, nor is the plane battery-operated. The specifics of the donor have not been disclosed.
In addition to the plane, Hanson also revealed financial contributions, including $1 million from stockbroker Angus Aitken and his wife, along with $500,000 each from former Northern Territory chief minister Adam Giles and climate sceptic Ian Plimer. Both Giles and Plimer are affiliated with Hancock Prospecting, owned by Australia’s wealthiest individual, Gina Rinehart, who is also a staunch supporter of Hanson.
Hanson emphasised the significance of these contributions for her party’s upcoming federal campaign, indicating that they will be essential for fundraising efforts ahead of the 2028 federal elections. She expressed gratitude to past contributors as well, recognising their role in providing hope and encouragement for her vision to revamp the nation.
One Nation faces new rules this year that will mandate the public disclosure of donations exceeding $2 million, which will be implemented with a cap on political donations. This increase in funding comes at a crucial moment as the party prepares for the Farrer byelection on May 9, where their candidate, David Farley, is seen as a strong contender against independent candidate Michelle Milthorpe. This byelection follows the retirement of former opposition leader Sussan Ley, who held the seat for 25 years.
The party’s rise in popularity in recent polls will be tested during this election, and Hanson’s team believes the support they’ve garnered will significantly impact their performance.
