In Western Australia, new regulations have been introduced for e-scooter riders, imposing fines for various infractions to ensure safety on the roads. Riders exceeding speeds of 10km/h on footpaths, engaging in reckless behaviour, or riding under the influence face a $100 fine.

Additional penalties will apply to those riding dangerously close—under two metres behind a vehicle—as well as for other road violations, including failing to signal to other road users.

Riders must adhere to speed limits; exceeding 70km/h will result in a hefty $500 fine. Safety gear is also a focus, with a $50 penalty for those caught without a helmet. This fine extends to riders under the age of 16, those carrying passengers or animals, and individuals who do not maintain at least one hand on the handlebars.

Further fines apply for not adhering to traffic rules such as failing to keep left, not yielding to pedestrians, and riding in designated “no bicycles” zones. In a more severe breach, using a mobile phone while riding can attract fines ranging from $500 to $1000.

These measures aim to promote safe e-scooter use and protect both riders and pedestrians.
