In a recent episode of his podcast Lucky Dogs, Brodie Kostecki weighed in on his recent clash with Chaz Mostert at Ruapuna, describing it as a "malicious" manoeuvre that has been increasingly common in Supercar racing. Kostecki expressed his concerns about the state of driving standards, highlighting the distinction between hard racing and reckless actions on the track. He noted that he felt the aggressive driving from Mostert was not only intentional but also repeated, as he referenced a previous incident involving another driver, Broc Feeney.
Kostecki recounted how he and Mostert were side-by-side during the race, only for Mostert to make an aggressive move that resulted in Kostecki losing momentum and being forced off the track into the grass. He described his reaction during the near-crash, feeling as though his premonitions were about to come true as he navigated through a difficult situation on the track.
After the race, the two drivers had a conversation in the pit lane, which Kostecki characterised as confrontational. He indicated that Mostert did not offer a genuine apology, instead attempting to shift the blame back to a previous incident at turn two. This led Kostecki to feel that Mostert was just justifying his behaviour rather than acknowledging any wrongdoing.
Despite the tension, Kostecki tried to maintain a philosophical outlook regarding the nature of motorsport while remaining firm on the fact that there is a significant difference between an innocent mistake and intentional aggression on the track. He suggested that everyone in racing has moments of poor judgement, but Kostecki insisted that the kind of actions exhibited by Mostert veered into malicious territory.
Looking ahead, Kostecki remains focused on the upcoming rounds of the Supercars Championship, with the next event set for Tasmania from May 22 to 24.
