The Avalon Australian International Airshow, the Southern Hemisphere’s premier aerospace and defence expo, is taking place this week in Victoria, showcasing the aviation industry’s top talents every two years. Open to the public for three days, attendees will enjoy spectacular aerial displays featuring a mix of military and civilian aircraft, while also having the opportunity to engage with teams and explore the aircraft on display.
This year’s event is scheduled from March 25 to March 30, with public access available from Friday to Sunday. Gates open at noon on Friday, closing at 8:30 PM, while Saturday and Sunday hours are from 8 AM to 6 PM. Daily flying demonstrations will kick off at 12:30 PM on Friday and at 10 AM over the weekend.
The Airshow’s trade days, from March 25 to March 28, are designed for professionals linked to defence and related industries. It is noted that registration for trade access has now closed. Avalon Airport, situated near Geelong and servicing Melbourne, is the event’s venue, recognised as its second busiest airport. The 2023 Airshow anticipates a record attendance of around 248,000 visitors throughout the six-day programme.
To attend, all visitors must purchase a ticket, with options available online. A Boarding Pass Ticket for adults (16+) costs $98, while children’s tickets (4-15 years) are priced at $25. Public transport is the recommended method of travel to the event, with V/Line shuttle services running from Lara Station directly to the Airshow site. New this year, ‘Park & Ride’ options from Melbourne and Geelong to the event are also available, but prior booking is essential due to limited onsite parking.
When arriving at the ‘Park & Ride’ locations, drivers should follow specific routes as indicated by event signage. For those opting to drive directly to Avalon Airport, taking the Lara – Avalon Road exit and following the provided directions is necessary.
The event promises a full programme, including daily flying displays, static aircraft exhibits, a general aviation sector, and the return of the thrilling Wall of Fire nighttime show on Friday. This year’s aircraft lineup includes representations from the Royal Australian Defence Force, US Air Force, German Air Force, and more.
For further details on the event schedule, attendees can check the Airshow’s official website. The Avalon Airshow stands as a significant event for aviation enthusiasts and professionals, marking a notable occasion on Australia’s aerospace calendar.
