World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler delivered an impressive performance with a bogey-free round of 65, putting him in a strong position as he heads into the final day of the Masters. This score marked his best career round at Augusta National after 27 attempts. However, his round was overshadowed by a question from a journalist that Scheffler dismissed as “terrible.” The reporter asked, “That was a 65 today. What did it feel like it could have or should have been?”

Scheffler’s response was swift: “That’s just a terrible question. Next question. Awful.” Despite the inquiry, he found himself in a good spot, tied for seventh at -7, just four strokes behind leaders Rory McIlroy and Cameron Young. His front nine, which included a stellar score of 31, was the best he had recorded across his seven appearances at the Masters, which includes two victories.

Throughout his round, Scheffler displayed exceptional skill with his approach shots, although he struggled to capitalise on many of the birdie opportunities he created. He recorded an eagle on the par-5 second hole and made additional birdies on Nos. 7, 8, and 9. Despite missing a few putts, including a 7-foot birdie attempt on the third hole, he maintained his focus.

Reflecting on his performance, Scheffler remarked, “It wasn’t maybe that bad – but it definitely could have been lower.” He expressed satisfaction with the execution of his game plan, stating that if he continued to play as well, he could find himself in contention.

The final holes saw Scheffler continue to press, with birdie opportunities coming up short on several instances, including a near miss on No. 15. He concluded his round with a birdie on the par-3 16th but left an 8-foot attempt short on the 17th before safely tapping in for par on 18.

In conclusion, while Scheffler’s round was commendable, the quest for even better performances remains on his mind as the Masters approaches its climax. His confidence in his abilities is evident, and with another solid day, he could very well challenge for the title.
