Woolworths has recently announced that it will discontinue a much-loved benefit from its Everyday Rewards program starting on Sunday, June 1. The supermarket chain plans to eliminate the monthly 10 per cent discount at Big W, which was available to subscribers of the Everyday Extra program.

A spokesperson explained that Big W’s focus has shifted towards providing customers with lower prices across thousands of products. For instance, 80 per cent of their clothing range is now priced under $20, and half of their homeware selection also falls below this threshold. This strategic decision to remove the monthly discount is intended to help maintain affordable pricing for customers shopping at Big W.

The announcement has sparked discontent among some Everyday Extra members, with critiques surfacing online. Some fear the annual subscription fee may no longer justify the benefits provided. One customer expressed concern that the discount was a key factor in their loyalty to Woolworths, while others echoed similar sentiments about the diminishing appeal of the program.

In response to the anticipated backlash, Woolworths indicated that it will offer new subscriber-only monthly deals at Big W as a compensatory measure. The spokesperson reassured customers that the Everyday Extra program would continue to evolve, presenting fresh opportunities for members to earn savings.

Despite the removal of the Big W discount, the Everyday Extra program remains attractive, still offering a monthly 10 per cent discount on one shop at Woolworths supermarkets and double Everyday Rewards points on purchases made at both Woolworths and Big W. These benefits could allow members to save approximately $50 a month, which is a significant return on the $7 monthly subscription fee.

For customers contemplating cancellation due to this change, they are encouraged to do so through the Everyday Rewards app or by reaching out to the customer service team.
