The family of a woman tragically killed in a suspected murder-suicide in Melbourne’s inner-north has been publicly identified. Rachel McKenna, a devoted mother to a seven-year-old, was found deceased in her home on January 31. Hours later, a man with severe injuries was discovered on the Princes Freeway in Little River; his identity has not been disclosed, though he was reportedly known to McKenna.
In the wake of her death, McKenna’s family, particularly her sister Meg Trotter, has expressed profound grief over the loss. Trotter described Rachel as a cherished daughter, loving aunty, and loyal friend, highlighting her vibrant personality and dedication to her son. She urged authorities to take decisive action against violence toward women, stating the family’s heartbreak over an “unnecessary tragedy” that has left an irreplaceable void in their lives.
A GoFundMe page has been established to assist with memorial service expenses. Trotter’s poignant message underlined the urgent need for societal change regarding domestic violence: “Something must be done to stop violence against women in this country.” Support is available through the Men’s Referral Service at 1300 766 491.
