A woman from Indiana, Brieonna Cassell, managed to survive in her car for nearly a week, relying solely on water from a nearby creek after a crash. Authorities reported that her car was discovered off the roadway near Brook, Indiana, by a man operating drainage machinery. He alerted his supervisor, a fire chief, who then found Cassell inside the vehicle, conscious and able to speak.
Cassell, a 41-year-old mother of three from Wheatfield, had been reported missing by her family days prior to her rescue. She had fallen asleep while driving on Thursday night, causing her to veer off the road and become trapped in a ditch. Unfortunately, her car was not visible from the main road.
Her father, Delmar Caldwell, explained that she suffered injuries to her legs and wrist, and added that her phone was discovered under the passenger seat. Despite being stuck and unable to exit the vehicle, Cassell was resourceful enough to reach the water, using her hooded sweatshirt to drink.
Cassell was extricated from the vehicle and subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Chicago. As of Wednesday, she remained in stable condition and was scheduled for surgery due to concerns regarding the healing of her leg injuries. Her mother conveyed that while her recovery would be lengthy, the prognosis was positive.
