A man has been taken into custody following alleged assaults on two women during a failed car-jacking incident in south-east Melbourne. The 24-year-old suspect reportedly threatened multiple individuals near a car wash located at the intersection of Cranbourne Road and Lindrum Road in Frankston around 11am.
According to police, he demanded the car keys from a woman at the car wash and assaulted her as she was vacuuming her vehicle. Eyewitness footage appears to show the man ambushing the woman, throwing a punch, and chasing her as she attempted to escape to her car. When a nearby car wash attendant intervened to help, the assailant fled on foot.
Shortly after, the same individual allegedly attacked another woman at a nearby shop, making similar demands for her vehicle keys. This second victim sustained minor injuries and received medical attention.
Dramatically, the suspect was apprehended shortly thereafter at a bus stop, surrounded by around a dozen police officers. He is currently in custody and is co-operating with ongoing investigations, although no charges have been laid as yet.
