Tragedy struck in Logan, south of Brisbane, following a car meet that culminated in a fatal accident. A woman has lost her life, and a baby has been hospitalised after a head-on collision involving multiple vehicles. The incident occurred around 9pm when a car attempted to overtake three others on School Road, colliding with a family returning home from an Easter gathering.
The victim, a 51-year-old mother-of-four visiting from Victoria, was driving a grey Ford Focus. Tragically, she died at the scene, while her 28-year-old niece and the niece’s one-year-old daughter sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital. The occupants of the other vehicle, a Ford Falcon utility, included a 17-year-old female driver and her passengers, who were reportedly ejected from the vehicle and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Witness accounts indicate that the Falcon was speeding and was travelling in the wrong lane without its lights on at the time of the crash.
Authorities have expressed outrage over the reckless behaviour associated with the car meet, which had attracted a large number of modified vehicles. Social media footage reveals a chaotic scene with hundreds of participants, many wearing balaclavas and mocking police officers present at the gathering. Law enforcement is currently seeking information regarding the Falcon involved in the crash and its connections to the event.
This incident escalates concerns regarding road safety, particularly in the wake of several fatalities on Queensland roads since last Thursday. Other tragic accidents include a passenger death after a car collided with a tree, alongside additional crashes involving motorbikes and quad bikes leading to further injuries and loss of life throughout the region.
As the community reflects on this devastating loss, police urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in their investigation.
