A woman was reportedly struck by a car on Campbell Street in Wonthaggi around 3:45 PM yesterday. According to police, the vehicle veered onto the incorrect side of the road, colliding with both the woman and her dog before fleeing the area. Shortly after the incident, the driver returned and was taken into custody.
The 68-year-old woman from Wonthaggi was treated at the hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries. Her dog did not survive the collision either, passing away at the scene.
A 47-year-old man from Narre Warren North has been charged with culpable driving in connection with the incident. He is currently remanded and is scheduled to appear before the Latrobe Magistrates’ Court today.
