The NSW Orana region, located near Dubbo, experienced an earthquake and several aftershocks in the early hours of the morning. Geoscience Australia detected a significant earthquake measuring 5.2 in magnitude moments after 2:30am. A subsequent aftershock with a magnitude of 4.1 was recorded at 2:43am, followed by another tremor at 5:43am, registering a magnitude of 3.6.
Over 250 residents reported feeling the initial quake on the Geoscience Australia platform. Among those who experienced the tremor was Dubbo’s mayor, Josh Black. He shared his reaction on social media, stating, “Gee that felt like an earthquake. Whole house just shook. Anyone else feel that?” Many responses echoed his sentiments, with one resident noting that while they were awake and breastfeeding, the bed shook and even their wardrobe rattled. Additionally, some had sensed their dogs acting restless prior to the earthquake.
Contrastingly, several locals seemed oblivious to the seismic activity, having slept through it. One resident mentioned that they only heard rattling windows, while another said they “didn’t feel a thing” and were sleeping “like a baby.”
