It is common for adults, particularly as they age, to wake once or twice during the night to urinate, a condition known as nocturia. Nocturia can disrupt the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep, leading to daytime fatigue, poor concentration, and mood changes, significantly impacting quality of life. In severe instances, its effects may resemble those seen in chronic conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure.

To manage nocturia, individuals can adopt strategies such as creating a comfortable sleep environment, limiting bladder irritants before bedtime, practising pelvic floor exercises, and ensuring adequate hydration during the day. Seeking medical advice is essential for those concerned about frequent urination or potential underlying causes, as there are treatments available to alleviate symptoms.
