The June long weekend is almost here, coinciding with the King’s Birthday celebrations. In Australia, King Charles III’s official birthday falls on November 14; however, a public holiday is observed on June 10 in most states. Notably, Western Australia and Queensland mark the occasion later, in September and October, respectively.
While plans for the weekend are shaping up, different states have specific regulations influencing shop trading hours. Below is a rundown of what to expect for retail trading during the King’s Birthday long weekend across Australia.
In states such as New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, Queensland, the Northern Territory, Western Australia, and Tasmania, Woolworths will operate as usual. Conversely, stores in South Australia will be closed, with some exceptions in certain regions.
Big W stores across NSW, the ACT, Victoria, Queensland, the Northern Territory, Western Australia, and Tasmania will also remain open, albeit with reduced hours. In South Australia, only select locations in Port Augusta, Victor Harbour, Mount Gambier, and Murray Bridge will operate.
Most Dan Murphy’s outlets will be open, running from 10 am to either 6 pm or 7 pm. Coles supermarkets will follow a similar pattern, open in all the aforementioned states while stores in South Australia will be shut.
Most Kmart stores will welcome customers, though they might be operating on a limited schedule. Stores in South Australia will typically open from 11 am to 5 pm, while those in the other states will maintain regular hours.
In terms of shopping centres, all Queensland and Western Australian centres will open during normal hours. In NSW and the ACT, centre openings will begin at 10 am with adjusted trading times, while all Westfield shopping centres in South Australia will remain closed. Victorian centres will operate from 10 am to 5 pm.
Bunnings outlets will be open across the nation during the long weekend, adhering to their regular operating times. Aldi’s hours will vary by location, so shoppers are encouraged to check their local store for details. BWS will have outlets open in all states and territories, with service hours set from between 9 am and 10 am until 6 pm to 7 pm.
This weekend promises to be a mix of celebration and preparation for upcoming festivities, with diverse trading hours reflecting the holiday spirit.
