Jillian Shriner, author and spouse of Weezer’s bassist Scott Shriner, was involved in a police incident that led to her being shot by law enforcement and subsequently arrested on charges of attempted murder, as reported by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). The event unfolded on Tuesday afternoon in Eagle Rock, East LA, where officers were searching for a suspect related to a separate hit-and-run case. While at a nearby property, the officers spotted Jillian, identified to be holding a firearm.
Despite multiple requests for her to drop the weapon, she refused to comply. The situation escalated when she allegedly aimed the handgun at the officers, resulting in an officer-involved shooting. Jillian was injured by gunfire and fled into her home but later emerged and was apprehended.
Whilst the LAPD could not clarify Jillian’s motive for possessing the firearm, especially as she had no known ties to the hit-and-run investigation, a 9-millimetre pistol was reportedly recovered at her residence. Fortunately, no officers or civilians were harmed during the altercation.
Following the incident, Jillian was transported to a local medical facility to receive treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. It remains unclear whether she has transitioned to jail custody post-treatment. Public arrest records indicate her bail has been set at $1 million (around $1.6 million AUD).
At the time of the incident, authorities detained one of the suspects associated with the hit-and-run but released him shortly after. Efforts to locate the other two suspects remain ongoing. Jillian and Scott Shriner have been married since 2005. Meanwhile, Weezer is set to perform at the upcoming Coachella Festival this weekend, scheduled for Saturday at the Mojave tent.
