A family in Melbourne narrowly avoided a potentially tragic incident when a vehicle crashed into their living room last night. The out-of-control utility vehicle veered off course, smashing through two fences before colliding with the house on Robinsons Road around 8:20 PM. At the time of impact, Yohana Birhana and one of her four children were inside the home.
Remarkably, Birhana’s 11-year-old daughter, who has autism, was sitting on a couch right next to the window that was shattered by the vehicle. As a result of the collision, the couch was pushed forward, with the young girl fortunately not sustaining any injuries. Birhana described the fear her daughter experienced during the incident, noting that she was visibly shaken but physically unharmed.
The teenage driver, aged 18, along with a passenger, also escaped without injuries. Following the crash, the driver received penalty notices, as it was determined that he did not maintain proper control of the vehicle and was driving without a valid licence. Birhana recounted that the driver expressed regret for the mishap.
Reflecting on the event, Birhana remarked on their fortune, emphasising, “You can imagine we were so lucky… God saved us.” The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of road accidents and the importance of vigilance.
