In the early hours of the morning, approximately 100 neo-Nazi protesters made their way through Melbourne’s CBD, prompting a strong response from the state’s premier, Jacinta Allan. The protest began around 12.40 am, with the masked individuals marching through the city. Premier Allan firmly stated, “We’re not afraid of these goons,” emphasising the need for community resilience against such ideologies.

The demonstration concluded at Flagstaff Gardens by about 1.25 am. Allan condemned the presence of the protesters, asserting that “Nazis don’t belong in this country and they know it,” highlighting their decision to conceal their identities as a sign of cowardice. She also referenced upcoming legislation aimed at enhancing police powers to deal with such protests. New anti-vilification laws are set to take effect next month, which will enable police to unmask individuals participating in protests.

In her remarks, she reiterated, “We’re not afraid of these goons – but we won’t tolerate them either.” The police reported that during the protest, a man was assaulted after confronting the group and was subsequently taken to hospital.

Victoria Police acknowledged the right to peaceful protest, yet categorically rejected any antisemitic, racist, or hate-driven behaviour. They assured the public of their commitment to maintaining order and addressing such conduct decisively.
